Making Donations in Support of the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary

The George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary is located on Westham Island in Delta, British Columbia. It receives over 60,000 visitors annually and is managed by the British Columbia Waterfowl Society.

The operation of the Sanctuary is supported financially through contributions of individuals and corporations, as well as gift shop revenue, memberships and gate entrance fees.

If considering a donation or bequest, contact the British Columbia Waterfowl Society at the Sanctuary office (604-946-6980) for important information such as the charitable registration number, information on tax receipts, recognition, and suggested wording for bequests.

All contributions are appreciated. Tax receipts are automatically issued for donations over $10.00. The Society is a registered non-profit charitable organization, and copies of annual audits are made available upon request.

Taxidermy items are sometimes donated. This generosity is greatly appreciated. However, there is already an extensive on-site collection of birds (the Leo Malfet Collection), and the Society reserves the right to judge whether additional donated materials become part of any permanent displays.

Donated specimens need to include a written description, the name and address of the donor and a brief history of the specimen (if known). We ask also that the owner state his or her wishes should the Sanctuary not be able to make effective use of the donation.

A Special Thanks to 2007 Contributors

Funding support from HSBC Bank Canada continues to help make the Sanctuary more accessibe to schools with limited resources in the Vancouver area. In 2007, the grant to the BCWS provided over 1400 students with free field trips to the Sanctuary to learn about migratory birds and wildlife conservation.
